La Pompe Attack 2026 performance press release
In America there was Charlie Christian (July 29, 1916 – March 2, 1942), In Europe there was Django Reinhardt (January 23, 1910-May 16, 1953). These two men, from different sides of the Atlantic Ocean, single handedly moved the guitar from its relegated position as a rhythm instrument to the front of the bandstand as a lead instrument. This coincided with the beginnings of the electrified guitar which allowed it to be heard above the volume of the rhythm section and horn players. Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian created the guitar vocabulary that continues to serve as the cornerstone for all jazz guitar players.
La Pompe Attack concerts for the 2026 season will focus on celebrating the musical legacy of Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian. Drawing from their combined extensive recorded libraries as well as material from La Pompe Attack’s last two releases, these shows are hot jazz of the highest order. Joined by a group of virtuosic performers including saxophonist Albert Rivera, drummer Ian Carroll, and bassist Michael Goetz, La Pompe Attack delivers an exciting and inclusive concert of trad jazz and Gypsy swing!
Led by two-time Grammy nominated guitarist Doug Munro, La Pompe Attack presents an exciting, updated interpretation of the hot swing sound of Django Reinhardt, coupled with Doug’s own unique and highly entertaining style of playing and singing.
“The real pleasure of New York guitarist Munro’s album rests in his obvious fondness for Django Reinhardt and the Quintette du Hot Club de France. His care and craft are at a high level.”
Downbeat Magazine
“Guitar heaven here as Munro and friends cover [sic] tunes in the style of Django Reinhardt.”
